How to Replace Your Ford Expedition Tail Light

The Ford Expedition is a full size SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) which was built by Ford Motor Company and introduced in the market in 1997 as a replacement to the earlier model - Ford Bronco. The Ford Expedition is Ford's flagship SUV. The current third generation models of these vehicles are produced in Kentucky from its earlier base at Michigan.

The Ford Expedition, just like any other vehicles, need proper maintenance in order to realize its full capacity.

Some of the most important parts that need apposite care include the exterior and the rare lights of the vehicle. Ford Expedition is therefore no exception to this maintenance and care. Tail lights (Rear lights) of Ford Expedition are of outmost importance and every driver of the vehicle should make sure they function all properly all the time.

Replacing the tail lights in Ford Expedition is often regarded as a tasking job and many a times, people seek expertise assistance. The tail light is located in the same place of the vehicle rear, one just below the other in the Ford Expedition. The only tools required here are either a T - 20 torx or a 9/32 socket. The first step is to open the entire lift gate, not just the glass to expose the lamp assemblies. There, you will see two or even three Phillip screws holding the tail lamp/lens assembly in place. Unscrew them and set them aside.

Carefully pop the lens off and to the light. There are normally three "push ins" that hold the lens. It may feel like more bolts, but if you pull evenly and diagonally away from the vehicle, they will pop out just fine. There are normally two light bulbs in the assembly on all Ford Expedition.

The top one is the brake light/ turn signal bulb and the other one is the back-up bulb. Normally, there are two groups of wires once you get the light out. These wires are the light bubs and they come out by turning counter-clockwise and then pulling up on them. Get rid of all the remnants of the lens out.

Once the area is clean, pop in the bulb in the new lens and turns it clockwise to snap it into place. Secure the two screws which had been set aside. The Ford Expedition auto parts stores recommend a 4157LL rather than the Sylvania 4157K and this works out perfectly.

This process should take you at least ten minutes and you are ready to bring back your ford Expeditions to the road. It is always advisable to replace the tail lamps as soon as they get broken. This will of course avoid facing the wrath of law enforcers as well as for safety purposes. This process should therefore be considered easy to learn by every Ford Expeditions driver.

How to Replace Christmas Light Bulbs

Do you remember Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold and the dilemma created over Christmas lights that would not light? This scene was not only hilarious, but also typified what many of us go through each Christmas season as we adorn our home or tree with a colorful display of lights only to discover that one or more of the little buggers will not light. Trying to track down the culprit(s) can be a frustrating and daunting task, unless you have some basic rules stamped in your brain to help you unravel the mystery.

Step One

The first thing you must do as you undertake the task of replacing Christmas light bulbs is to not get frustrated. Frustration can lead to a tangled mess of lights that have no beginning or end, and leave you disgusted and resigned to spending money on a news set of lights.

Step Two

Take your lights and lay them out on the floor. Once they are untangled and clearly ready for the surgical task ahead, plug them into the closest outlet in order to work your way by turning the lights on and off to the light(s) that need to be replaced. Most sets come with spare lights, so you should have these lights on hand.

Step Three

If life were simple, you might discover a few bulbs missing and once replaced your string of lights should glow. However, we know that life is not that simple, so you may need to take on the task of individually testing each bulb.

Step Four

When a bad bulb is replaced, and it's best to start with the first bulb on the string, the rest of the lights will glow. If the first light you test is not the bad light, replace it to its original spot and move on down the line. If you have any luck at all, you should strike gold in your first few attempts, but don't be discouraged if you find yourself nearing the end of the string before the culprit is found.

Step Five

For the most part, when a string of Christmas lights won't light, it is because of a bad bulb. In some cases, however, there could be a wire shorting causing the problem. In this case, it's probably less expensive and certainly less frustrating to go out and purchase a new set of lights.

Environmentally Friendly Christmas Light Replacements

Let's assume that you are going to replace your Christmas lights because no matter what you do, they will not work. As an environmentally concerned citizen and budget conscious as well, you should know that replacing your Christmas lights with light-emitting diodes or LED lights are the way to go. 1. LED lighting will burn 4,000 hours or more, which averages out to four years of continued use. Most run-of-the mill lights only last on the average 2,000 hours.

The good news doesn't end there, because when an LED does burn out, the rest of the strand of lighting remains lit. Therefore, you save yourself the frustration of searching for that one light that shuts down a whole string.

3. Since you won't be throwing away a string of LED Christmas lights any time soon, you're helping eliminate tons of non-biodegradable plastic that raises havoc in landfills across the world, and because much less electricity is used to run LED Christmas lights, much less coal and other energy sources that provide electricity is being depleted from our dwindling supply.

4. A purchase option for LED lights is available as solar powered, which means they will turn on automatically when the sun goes down, and the battery that powers the lighting is charged by the sun. How green is that?

5. You might think these lights are expensive, and they are more than an average string of incandescent Christmas lights. But when you consider the energy saved and replacement savings, paying a dollar per seven LEDs lights does not seem like a bad deal at all. In addition, LED Christmas lights come in a greater variety of configurations than incandescent strings, so you can decide how many lights you want and purchase just what you need.

6. As far as safety goes, you can't beat LED lights. Unlike incandescent bulbs, LEDs do not get extremely hot, which can and has caused Christmas tree fires. LEDs are also less likely to break because they are encased in plastic. And, when it comes to storage, the LED wiring is thicker than that which holds the incandescent bulbs, so it is less likely to tangle up in a ball rather than a manageable strand of lights.

7. LED Christmas lights are available in a variety of holiday colors and will blink if desired.

How to Replace T8 Or T12 Lights With New Energy Efficient T5 Lighting

T5 compact lighting has given T8 and T12 users an energy efficient option to fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent lights can be used in many ways and places but are most commonly found in offices, schools, hospitals, warehouses, and retail spaces. Regular fluorescent lights or T8 and T12 are now becoming obsolete. The new T5's are 16mm wide, almost half the size of T12 lights. This makes them much thinner then regular fluorescent lights. Manufacturers created the T5 line to compete in the compact fluorescent lighting market. T5 bulbs reduce consumption of power by about 50% while still providing the same output of light as regular fluorescent lights.

Luckily manufacturers have also come up with an easy way to change out existing T8 and T12 bulbs for T5 bulbs using conversion kits. These kits allow you to use T5 bulbs in existing strip light fixtures. You can choose to remove the existing strip light fixtures and replace them with T5 specific fixtures.

How does the energy efficiency aspect breakdown? A 35 watt T5 bulb can replace a 58 watt T12 bulb and still supply the same amount of light. This is how they calculated the average 50% energy savings. A T5 light bulb usually lasts at least 15,000 hours losing only about 5% output in its life. A T8 light bulb usually lasts about 9,000 hours but it loses about 20% output in its life. T5 light bulbs will not need to be replaced as often as T8 and T12 bulbs so they will need less maintenance and save you money on that department also.

Although T5 lights cost more than T8 and T12 lights do, the conversion kits can save you about 70% of the cost of actually replacing the fixtures. The T5 conversion kits can easily be installed right along with the bulbs. Clip-on reflectors can also be used with T5 lighting to enhance the fixtures light output.

Replacing and updating your existing fixtures to T5 standards is fairly simple thanks to conversion kits. T5 kits will cost more initially but will save you money in the long run. Thanks to the manufacturers of T5 fluorescent bulbs, making the change to energy efficiency is a painless and simple move.
